Antibiotics: Taking magnesium along with antibiotics can decrease the absorption and effectiveness of the antibiotic. Depending on which antibiotic is prescribed, you may need to separate CitraLith from the antibiotic, as indicated below.
Levodopa: Vitamin B6 may reduce the effects of levodopa when taken alone, but not when taken in conjunction with carbidopa. Do not take CitraLith along with levodopa unless you are also taking carbidopa.
Potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, eplerenone, triamterene): These medications can increase potassium and/or magnesium levels. Taking CitraLith, which contains potassium and magnesium, along with these medications, may cause too much potassium and/or magnesium in the body.
High blood pressure medications (ACE inhibitors: captopril, lisinopril, cilazapril, enalapril, fosinopril, etc. or Angiotensin Receptor Blockers: losartan, valsartan, azilsartan, candesartan, telmisartan, etc.): These medications can increase potassium levels. Taking CitraLith, which contains potassium, along with these medications may cause too much potassium in the body.
Oral Bisphosphonates (i.e., alendronate (Fosamax), etidronate (Didronel), risedronate (Actonel), ibandronate (Boniva), tiludronate (Skelid)): Magnesium can decrease the absorption of these medications. Separate by 2 hours.
